1. Brigadiers Indian restaurant in City Bloomberg Arcade, Queen Victoria Street - EC2R
“Magnificent” Indian scoff (and surprisingly good value considering the location) has quickly earned a stellar reputation for this “superb” venue in the City’s Bloomberg Arcade (from JKS, “the same group as Trishna, Gymkhana etc”). It’s a “noisy” venue with plentiful TV screens showing sport and is a haven for “meat-lovers” – all of which gives it a decidedly male feel. But it “oozes fun”, and even detractors who find it “slightly excessively ‘City’” – and “about as authentic as Kim Kardashian” – concede that “there’s no doubt the food and drink can’t be beaten”.
2. Mint Leaf Lounge Indian restaurant in City Angel Court, Lothbury - EC2
Striking design and high-quality cuisine make it worth knowing about this nouvelle Indian cocktail lounge and restaurant, hidden away behind the Bank of England.
3. temper City BBQ restaurant in City Angel Court - EC2R
Neil Rankin’s trio of venues all centre on cooking over fire – with fire pits more and less on display – and the choice of an array of steaks (rare breed, from UK farms), fish and other meats, backed up by a selection of tacos. Sunday roast, bottomless brunch and steak supper clubs also feature in their list of attractions. All reports are positive this year, although even those who consider the food “outstanding” can quibble over the pricing. A “lovely new outdoor space” in WC2 has been a great addition.
4. Bangalore Express Indian restaurant in City 1 Corbet Ct - EC3
2018 Review: “Always good tastes and good value” win fans for this “reliable” contemporary-style Indian, right in the heart of the Square Mile.
