“Mindblowing!” – this “colonially-themed” yearling in the City’s Bloomberg Arcade is “another smash hit from JKS” and “probably the best place to eat in the Square Mile” right now. Occupying a “comfortable (slightly macho) sequence of little rooms”, staff are notably “patient and helpful”, while foodwise “the focus is on Indian sharing plates” with “insanely good” grilled meats (lamb chops in particular), plus “all your local curry favourites, dressed up with wonderful, perfumed aromatics and dazzling dips”. “They don’t pull any punches when it comes to heat in dishes either”, and “there’s a strong drinks menu too” – you can see “thought has gone into the beer selection”. With numerous TV screens, “it’s a great place to watch sports” (“they even have a pool table!”)

Very early feedback is adulatory for the massive menu of flavour-packed Indian BBQ dishes served at this JKS Restaurants (Gymkhana, Hoppers) newcomer (opened in June 2018), which occupies the largest restaurant space in the City’s Bloomberg Arcade. A sizeable operation inspired by traditional Indian Army mess halls (well, that’s what the press release said) it comprises multiple spaces including several bars (The Tap Room, Blighters) and private rooms (the biggest, The Pot Luck, has its own entrance).

Summary

JKS Restaurants (AKA the Sethi siblings), the founders of Gymkhana and Hoppers, are behind this Indian BBQ restaurant inspired by traditional Indian Army mess halls. It is slated to open autumn 2017 alongside nine other eateries in the new Bloomberg City HQ.

For 30 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).

Delivery, Take out & Mail order

Take out

This Indian barbecue, beer, and whisky venue in Bloomberg Arcade, has launched a "Daru" Shop. Taking inspiration from the hundreds of Daru shops found all over India: visitors to the newly formatted Brigadiers recpetion will find a traditional indian off-licence, selling both bottled alcohol, and drinks and food 'to-go'.

With the tagline of 'Beer, Whisky, Coktails, Mangoes', the Daru shop will be a one-stop shop for picking up takeaway pints, drinks, and snacks in the City.

Click & Collect

Brigadiers' Delivery and Click & Collect has new opening hours to include Friday lunchtime (from 1pm). From Friday 19 June, delivery will have a vastly extended delivery radius of 8 miles for orders made the day before the desired delivery, and 3 miles for same-day delivery. An 'Office Biryani Feast' will be available exclusively via Click & Collect between 1pm and 5pm Fridays, with a menu including a Shahi Raan Biryani (£25 per head, minimum of 4 guests).

"Club/pub atmosphere is part of its charm. Hard to fault. Real care taken in maintaining high standards and ‘nothing too much trouble’. Not cheap but is still good value considering the quality. Beef-shin and marrow biryani - as wonderful and rich as it sounds."

"Great food but expensive. You can rapidly run up a bill. Goat chops were the highlight , kid shoulder also very good as was the biryani. Would go back if on an expense account!"
