French Restaurants in Surrey
1. The French Table
French restaurant in Surbiton
85 Maple Rd - KT6
“Consistently outstanding” – Eric & Sarah Guignard’s “cosy” backstreet gem has provided Surbiton’s contribution to London gastronomy for over two decades now. Their “professional and amiable” team deliver “confident”, “high-end” Gallic cuisine in a low-key but “delightfully decorated” space. In the words of a diner, who crossed town (from Watford!): “worth the very long, 3-hour drive for us… great crispy pig’s head and ham hock: excellent lamb assiette and the broccoli in a chickpea batter with pistou dressing was outstanding as part of a first-class culinary experience!”.
2. The Cricketers
French restaurant in Cobham
Downside Common - KT11
“A favourite because it’s so consistently good”, this spacious old pub in a beautiful setting on Downside Common is part of Raymond Blanc’s White Brasserie chain, and has a menu that runs from baguette with dips to (royal butcher) Aubrey Allen steak and chips. A recent makeover has spruced things up a bit.
3. José Pizarro at The Swan Inn Esher
British, Modern restaurant in Esher
2 Hare Lane - KT10
Tapas supremo José Pizarro’s first foray outside the Big Smoke brings his “lovely Spanish fare” to this “relaxed former pub” in the Surrey suburbs near Esher Common. “The food seems to get better every time we visit”; and is equally suited to “bringing the whole family” or a “romantic tête-à-tête”.
4. The French Tarte
French restaurant in Surbiton
83 Maple Road - KT6
This “lovely local friendly coffee shop” with a French accent and pastries is a spin-off from Eric and Sarah Guignard’s French Table next door, and does a particularly good Gallic take on the English afternoon tea.
