Harden's says
Classically trained chef Joshua Hunter opened Hawthorn, an elegant neighbourhood restaurant in the heart of Kew Village, in 2023, offering refined, generous, modern European dining using predominantly British seasonal ingredients.
Harden's survey result
Summary
“A very worthy successor to the beloved Glasshouse (RIP)” – this new Kew favourite is co-owned by its predecessor’s former manager, Patra Panas. Service is particularly “well-drilled and friendly”; and regulars are “delighted to find that little has changed” after a “seamless” changeover, with “many of the furnishings still in place” in the agreeable (a few feel, “slightly uninspiring”) dining room. Diners dispute whether the “intelligent and carefully crafted” cuisine, from chef and co-owner Josh Hunter, is a step up or down from before, but practically all agree it’s “very competent”, and say “we shall definitely return and recommend it highly!”
For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).

Hawthorn Restaurant Diner Reviews
"Food good but a little over seasoned, service excellent if a little slow on a very busy Sunday lunchtime."
"Lunch is great value at the excellent Hawthorn restaurant in Kew. Cooking remains strong and good wine recommendations by the glass"
"Not as good as the glasshouse "
"Brilliant food as the chef-owner leads from the front (he seems to be doing everything). This landmark location deserves to thrive and the current regime is certainly maintaining excellent standards "
"Unlike other reviewers, I preferred Glasshouse."
"Lovely replacement for the well loved Glasshouse. Wine list was very affordable and both bottles we tried were excellent. A big shout out for the black pudding, heavenly!"
"Excellent food and great sommelier. Attentive service and all at a somewhat reasonable price. Ambience is a bit quiet but classy"
"Some superb cooking at this newly open restaurant next to Kew station. Well balanced menu with innovative suggestions to cope with any allergies. Wine list has some great options by glass and set dinner menu at £65 is a bargain. Worth a visit now before prices rise once they get the deserved Michelin star next year"
