Former Chutney Mary site reopens as Masala Grill

Screenshot 2015-05-05 10.13.46The former site of Chutney Mary on King’s Road has been transformed into MW Eat’s newest venture – Masala Grill. Opening today (5 May), the restaurant is a more casual affair than its predecessor serving street food snacks alongside grilled fish and meat, curries, biryanis and thalis.

The restaurant group will relocate its Chelsea stalwart Chutney Mary (the “aristocrat of the Indian world”) to the one-time home of Wheeler’s in June. The historic St James’s premises (the former site of Marco Pierre White’s Wheeler’s) were also occupied by Prunier, the famed French fish restaurant, from 1936-1980.

According to the restaurant group’s chairman Ranjit Mathrani the restaurant will be an all-day affair with brunch playing an important role at weekends. Chutney Mary’s new home features two spaces – a 50-60 seater bar, with cocktails and snacks, and the main 110-cover dining room. There will be two private dining rooms on the lower level, to accommodate 32 and 16 diners respectively.
