An upmarket steakhouse called Lucky Grill opens this week from the Wild Group in Kensington, replacing Greek restaurant Krokodilos that lasted just over a year at the site in Lancer Square, off Church Street.
The move follows a similar switch last year by Wild Group when Fantomas in King’s Road, Chelsea, was replaced by the Chelsea Grill.
Krokodilos was well received by critics, including the Guardian’s Grace Dent, and achieved excellent ratings in this year’s Harden’s guide as a “tasteful” and “very welcome newcomer”, before closing down at the end of March.
Wild Group co-founder George Bukhov-Weinstein explained the move in forthright terms: “Chelsea Grill opened in November last year, and just five months later was named number 55 in the World’s Best 101 Steak Restaurants. So, when we looked at High Street Kensington and saw nowhere doing steak the way we do it, we didn’t think twice.”
Lucky Grill is considerably larger than Chelsea Grill, and serves a range of steaks from the UK and Italy, including Scottish wagyu, which are dry-aged on-site for 30 days. Scottish scallops, Cornish squid, whole sea bream and Galician-style octopus are also cooked over a Rhys Allen grill, and there is a tight menu of starters and desserts.
Wild Group have long experience of steakhouses, with Goodman and Beast in the portfolio.
