Lara Boglione, whose family owns Petersham Nurseries on the edge of Richmond Park, opened a Florentine wine bar/restaurant in Notting Hill this week with her Tuscan winemaker husband, Giovanni Mazzei.
Named Trogolo – Italian for ‘trough’, after the communal stone water troughs found across Tuscany – the Westbourne Grove venue promises “a slice of Florence with attitude… No fluff, no fuss, just flavour.”
Giovanni, whose family has been producing wine for 500 years, has assembled a 350-strong selection for Trogolo. He aims to “make our wine list the definitive reference point for Italian and, specifically, Tuscan wines in London“. The downstairs bar has its own menu of Tuscan snacks and also offers cocktails, while the main menu is served in upstairs in the dining room, which features long tables for communal eating as well as marble-topped tables for two.
Lara’s parents, Gael and Francesco Boglione, opened Petersham Nurseries more than 20 years ago. In February they closed their two central London outposts, La Goccia and The Petersham, after a six-year run in Covent Garden.
