Bale putts his passion into Cardiff’s dining concept

The top-knotted Real Madrid and Wales footballer and golf fanatic Gareth Bale is ready to tee off at new indoor golf and dining venue, Par 59, in a huge former nightclub in Cardiff next Friday, March 18.

Named in reference to the elusive sub-60 round that elite golfers strive after, the operation will accommodate two nine-hole courses and a third when phase two is completed. Set in the 23,000 sq ft former Liquid/Life nightclub in the city centre, the venue’s restaurant, Dirty Birdie, will offer a menu of burgers, nachos and buttermilk fried chicken.

Bale and his partners, Cardiff events and street-food company the Depot, have earmarked a harbourside site in Bristol for their second venue, which they aim to open later this year. Eventually they hope to be able to offer a full golf tour of Par 59s in cities from Bath and Southampton to Manchester, Newcastle and Edinburgh – perhaps even Dubai.

Bale opened Elevens sports bar and grill, his first foray into the hospitality industry, in Cardiff five years ago.
