Burgers, Etc Restaurants in Manchester
1. Solita Burgers, etc restaurant in Manchester 37 Turner St - M4
“Good-quality, well-cooked and inventive burgers – and some genius specials” (remember the ‘Spam Allardyce’?) draw a steady stream of salivating carnivores to this Northern Quarter joint, “although the trademark barrage of social media seems to have calmed down last year, as has the constant invention/reinvention of new burgers”. “The steaks are also some of the best around, and they make a decent bearnaise”, as well as four different meat-free burgers. Outposts in Prestwich and Preston have closed down, but there’s still one in Didsbury.
2. Almost Famous Burgers, etc restaurant in Manchester 100-102 High St - M4
“Real dirty burgers” – including the dirty vegan (if that’s not a contradiction in terms) ‘Phok-Meat’ – win excellent ratings at the founding branch of what is now a four-strong Northern group.
3. Five Guys Burgers, etc restaurant in Manchester Intu Trafford Centre - M17
“When all you want is an old-school burger”, these US-based arrivals of recent years really “hit the spot” – you can “build your own”, with “tons of accessories”; plus “seriously addictive fries”, “thick milkshakes”, and “more soda flavours than is reasonable”. “The eat-in experience is as depressing as McDonald’s”, though, in fact perhaps more so – “some branches have a strangely gloomy ambience” – but fans feel that “if you don’t mind 1980s-rock, a trip can still be surprisingly fun”.
