1. Pizzeria da Michele
Pizza restaurant in Manchester
53 King Street - M2
The former Deansgate branch of Zizzi – an elegant, Grade II-listed space with 8-metre high ceilings – is set in late 2021 to be home to what is often touted as ‘the world's best pizza’, as made famous by Julia Roberts in Eat, Pray, Love. The city prides itself on knowing its way around a slice – it will be interesting to see how this newcomer stacks up.
2. Rudy's
Pizza restaurant in Manchester
9 Cotton Street, Ancoats - M4
A “lively place” serving “pizzas a real cut above those usually served in the UK”, this Ancoats joint inspires acclamation from its large fanclub, who insist it’s “the best pizzeria bar none”. “Good-value desserts and Aperol spritz are a bonus”, and “it’s in a lovely spot so you can grab a drink in one of the many excellent pubs and bars within walking distance before your meal. You can now book but they’ll text you if you have to wait for a walk-in”. Founded by Jim Morgan & Kate Wilson in 2015, it now has eight branches, from Liverpool via Leeds and Birmingham to Soho in London.
3. Yellowhammer
Pizza restaurant in Stockport
15 Lower Hillgate - SK1
Any new project involving Sam ‘Where the Light Gets In’ Buckley is news in these parts, and so it will likely be with this new community bakery, pottery and deli – a forthcoming collaboration with potter Joe Hartley and baker Rosie Wilkes. We are promised buns a-plenty, alongside pies, pizza, artisan pottery… and to cap it off, a sound system playing vinyl.
