‘Outsider’ perspective at new Goodge Street bistro

The team behind highly regarded central London trio Portland, Clipstone and the Quality Chop House are to open what promises to be a smart French bistro in Goodge Street, Fitzrovia.

64 Goodge Street will launch at the height of les vacances on 7 August under group executive head chef Stuart Andrew, a key member of the team since the acclaimed opening of Portland in 2015.

Stuart’s knowledge of French cuisine stems from his 18 months working in Paris, and he promises to offer “French cooking from an outsider’s perspective“, with “a focus on excellent quality food within a relaxed setting“.

Highlights of the menu include snail, bacon and garlic bonbons; rabbit Niçoise; and a signature lobster vol-au-vent with sauce Américaine, while the wine list will be slanted towards Burgundy.

The Woodhead Restaurant Group, run by Will Lander and Daniel Morgenthau, consistently wins high ratings across its portfolio in the Harden’s guide. This year, flagship Portland is praised for “incredible cooking at very fair prices” along with “knowledgeable and classy service“.
