Oystermen for Covent Garden

Three-year-old pop-up The Oystermen is to open its first permanent venue in Covent Garden this summer.

The Oystermen seafood bar and kitchen will be in foodie hot-spot Henrietta Street, where Ollie Dabbous has just opened his new restaurant in The Henrietta hotel and Gregory Marchand opened Frenchie last year.

Unusually, The Oystermen is a business that grew out of a wedding, when founders Matt Lovell and Rob Hampton decided to shuck bivalves at Lovell’s nuptials in 2014. Since then they have run pop-ups and an extended residency at The Sampler wine shop in South Kensington.

British oysters will be available both fresh on the half shell and Cajun battered, New Orleans po’ boy-style, alongside mussels, crabs, shellfish platters, home-cured seafood and daily fresh fish specials. Drinks on offer will include wine, bubbles, craft beers and their own-label oyster stout.
