The fast-expanding Public House Group soft-launched its latest London pub this week – The Hart in Marylebone, behind the Wallace Collection and next door to the currently closed Chiltern Firehouse.
Known as The Flowerhouse for the past four years, The Hart has three storeys with a bar at ground-floor level leading up to a restaurant on the first floor and what is billed as an ‘intimate dining space’ at the top. It has been renovated in the company’s familiar understatedly elegant style, with the formality of candles and white tablecloths in the restaurant.
Founded by James Gummer and Phil Winser, who launched The Pelican in Notting Hill in 2021, the Public House Group established itself as one of the most dynamic new operators on the London hospitality scene with a trio of openings last year: The Hero in Maida Vale and Canteen and The Fat Badger, at the same address in Portobello Road. The group also owns The Bull at Charlbury in the Cotswolds, where the founders grew up.
The current Harden’s Guide describes The Pelican as “a pretty perfect gastropub”, and reviewers have given a generally warm welcome to its newer stablemates.
