Glynn Purnell pulls the plug on pub

High-profile Midlands chef Glynn Purnell has announced the closure of his pub The Mount in Henley-in-Arden after a turbulent two years in which he also closed his flagship restaurant, Purnells in Birmingham.

Glynn opened The Mount near Stratford with Luke and Tania Fryer in 2022, and will run its final service on Sunday 15 March because, he said, “rising running costs, increasing food prices and energy bills have made [it] no longer financially viable”.

The hospitality landscape has become increasingly challenging, and despite everyone’s hard work, it’s simply not sustainable to continue. I’m hugely grateful for the opportunity and for the commitment shown throughout,” he added, thanking his “brilliant team and fantastic guests”.

Well-known from his TV appearances as the Yummy Brummie, Glynn opened his latest restaurant Trillium in partnership with wine specialist Phil Inness hortly before Christmas in Birmingham.

Glynn said: “I’ll now be focusing my time on my other ventures – Trillium and Plates by Purnell’s in Birmingham, and The Wood Norton in Evesham – and I look forward to welcoming guests there.”
