Two takes on Japanese cuisine

Kibako, billed as a ‘modern Japanese restaurant’ featuring presentation boxes of exquisite small dishes, opened this week in Windmill Street, Fitzrovia.

Taking over the site formerly occupied by Rai, Kibako is from the team behind Hot Stone in Islington’s Chapel Market, highly praised in the 2023 Harden’s Guide for its “high-quality Kobe beef, sushi and sashimi“.

The restaurant’s website is offering a 40 per cent discount on meals until the end of March.

Kibako follows just a week after the launch of Izakaya Nights, an evenings-only Japanese restaurant operating at a single long table after hours at the Supermarket of Dreams in Notting Hill, run by chefs Juan Cardona, formerly of Endo at the Rotunda, and Jaime Finol, formerly of Sumi.
