Hugely popular Cantonese canteen Dim Sum Duck in King’s Cross has opened a second branch around the corner from the tiny original – which should ease the long queues for a table.
The family-run outfit has steadily earned cult status since launching six years ago, and is the top-rated Chinese restaurant in the under £80-a-head category in the new 2026 Harden’s guide (although a meal here costs considerably less than that, from about £40 per person).
Fans are prepared to queue for over an hour on grimy King’s Cross Road before squeezing round a table that may be under a plastic shelter on the pavement, for the promise of food described By Harden’s as “old-school cooking just like you’d find in Hong Kong”, featuring delights such as “the best tasty prawns I’ve had in years”.
The new venue – which opened this week but so far can only accept cash payment – is about one minute’s walk from the original, at 180 Pentonville Road.
