Cau is coming to Wimbledon

Could it be that, at long last, Wimbledon may be graced with a decent place to dine out? Over the years our reporters have bemoaned the general lack of good restaurants in SW19, but now we hear that Argentine-style steakhouse Cau is to open there this autumn.

The restaurant group – which already has restaurants in Cambridge, Guildford, Blackheath, Kingston, Tunbridge Wells and, er, Amsterdam – will launch its latest outpost on the site of former Wimbledon Village restaurant Layla.

Owned by the people behind mega-popular steakhouse chain, Gaucho, Cau takes its inspiration from Argentine cuisine and South American street food, with, we are told, a Mediterranean twist.

The menu features charcuterie, South American-style gambas and chicken, a selection of steak cuts, burgers and grilled meat sandwiches. A Reading site is also said to be in the works.
