Chef to open seafood restaurant in Brixton, with a focus on British and Irish fish

Chef Simon Whiteside has announced a new solo enterprise – Roe, in London’s Pop Brixton.

Whiteside co-founded fish and seafood restaurant Hook in Camden last year. The chef will open a new 32-cover restaurant south of the river on November 7.

At Roe, the chef will again focus on sustainable seafood from the British and Irish coastlines. No doubt the breezy food will suit a Brixton shipping container. Though the concept isn’t without risk.

Whiteside said: “I’m so excited to be opening Roe next month. My wife Cairene and I have been talking about the Roe concept for a while now and we’re looking forward to opening and serving up tasty and affordable food.

“Opening a place without investors is daunting but it will give us the freedom to do so much more than before.”

Roe’s menu will feature small plates such as grey mullet poitin ceviche with cucumber and lime, and cuttlefish and ink arancini with pecorino foam. Larger dishes such as ray wing with Jerusalem artichoke and wild mushrooms, and confit sea trout with sea greens under an oyster and sorrel emulsion will also make an appearance.

There will be plenty of cocktails to satiate the desires of the South London crowd, while communal tables made from reclaimed wood complete its right-on street cred’.
