It may be an iconic bastion of old world gastronomy, but Le Gavroche is still rolling with the times after all these years. Michel Roux Jr plans to offer a brand new dining experience on Mondays from January 2016, which sees the Mayfair restaurant close to the general public but available for private and corporate hire, as well as making way for a series of unique pop-up events.
Michel and his daughter Emily will launch the pop-up series on 1 February 2016 with “The Next Generation”, an intimate event in which the duo collaborate at Le Gavroche for the very first time. Guests can expect to experience offerings from previous Roux scholars, as well as bespoke wine events and tutored tastings from the restaurant’s head sommelier, David Galetti, and his team.
The restaurant will also be available for exclusive private hire on Mondays. Part of the reason for the switch-up is to allow staff a better work/life balance with increased time away from their jobs – something that is becoming increasingly popular in the industry with Sat Bains announcing a cut to his staff’s hours (without a cut in wages) earlier this year, swiftly followed by Hedone and Raby Hunt who did away with weekday lunches.
