A taste of Lecce on Long Acre

An all-day family-run café and wine-bar that champions specialities from the city of Lecce in Puglia opens next week in Covent Garden. Capilungo’s co-founders, brother and sister Gianluca and Asia Capilungo, grew up in Lecce and are inspired by their uncle Luca Capilunga, who has run his own bakery there for more than 30 years.

The 15-cover venue on Long Acre will serve a menu centred on Lecce’s ‘pasticciotto‘ and ‘rustico‘ pastries – the former shortcrust with cream-based fillings, ideal for breakfast, the latter savoury-filled puff-pastry snacks.

In the evening, the focus switches to cocktails and wines sourced from Puglia and the neighbouring region of Salento.

Gianluca grew up working in his mother’s restaurant in Lecce, and has worked for Soho House and the Aqua Restaurant Group in London. Asia also worked at Soho House and the Cubitt House Group before helping to establish Indo-Chinese restaurant Fatt Pundit in Soho with her partner Huzefa Sajawal, who is also part of the Capilungo founding team.
