French brasserie with an Irish accent

A new Franco-Irish brasserie has launched in Old Spitalfields Market. 65A Spitalfields officially opens next Tuesday, 12 September, but diners can sample it today with food at a 30% discount during the soft launch.

The restaurant is owned by Irish-born entrepreneur and publican Patrick Frawley, with executive chef Maura Baxter running the kitchen. It takes over the spacious site previously hosting Coqbull and Blixen, with tables available outside and in the market.

The menu promises “classic French-inspired fare, with each dish celebrating the quality of the raw ingredients through simple yet skilful cookery“. It offers brasserie classics including French onion soup, duck liver parfait, pommes dauphinoise, fillet steak with Café de Paris butter and rotisserie chicken, with the occasional nod to Ireland such as Carlingford oysters and house-cured salmon.
