British, Traditional Restaurants in Cambridge
1. The St John’s Chop House British, Traditional restaurant in Cambridge 21-24 Northampton St - CB3
Solid marks again for this sibling to the Cambridge Chop House, in a cute, two-floor seventeenth-century house behind St John’s College, and similarly majoring in meaty mains with ales and wines to wash a meal down. Top Tip – worth heading here for their set lunch menu.
2. The Cambridge Chop House British, Traditional restaurant in Cambridge 1 Kings Parade - CB2
2019 Review: Yards from King’s, and with “lovely views” of the college chapel, this attractive, no-nonsense meat specialist continues to win enthusiastic all-round feedback; part of a nine-strong local chain, the owners are now crowdfunding to open two new sites.
3. Oak Bistro British, Modern restaurant in Cambridge 6 Lensfield Road - CB2
A “good local bistro” that’s “always very busy” owing to its solid, reasonably priced Anglo/European food and a “very visible” owner who “obviously cares very much about the business”; “lovely courtyard in summer” too.
4. Old Bicycle Shop British, Traditional restaurant in Cambridge
2018 Review: It only opened in May 2016, but the Cambridge Brew House’s sibling “feels like it’s been there forever” (a claim more apt for the previous tenant, Howes Cycles, which had been trading for 173 years when it closed in 2013!) “It always seems to be rammed”, and although “service can be a bit patchy”, the food’s “absolutely fine”.
