The “British classics (whitebait, Barnsley chop etc)” are “all fine” – and “given its prime tourist location, much better than you might expect” – at this “pleasant” spot opposite King’s College Chapel. But do try to grab a street-level table, rather than heading “downstairs to the dark and pokey basement”.

This “always reliable” outfit in a prime tourist location pleases carnivores with its selection of classic British cuts of meat – while the “midweek early evening short menu is very reasonable”. “The ambience is much better if you can get a ground-level table” with views of King’s College Chapel – (“but usually you can’t!”).

“Despite its tourist-trap location” on the Cambridge main drag, this steakhouse excels – for its “enormous slabs of decent meat, which has been properly cooked”, “fair prices” and a “good-value lunch menu”. It’s “essential” to eat in the “lovely atmosphere downstairs”, with “street-level views of King’s College Chapel”.

For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
