‘Folk to farm’ feasts at Simon Rogan’s smallholding

‘Farm to fork’ is a major dining trend of recent years, but Simon Rogan of L’Enclume – rated the UK’s no 1 restaurant in the 2024 Harden’s guide – takes it a step further with a series of events this summer that could be described as ‘folk to farm’.

On selected Mondays and Tuesdays from June to September, 16 guests will be entertained with a tour followed by a meal – cooked and consumed outdoors – at Our Farm, the smallholding in Cartmel in the Lake District that Simon established in 2011 and which has since tripled in size, to produce ingredients served at L’Enclume and his other restaurants, Rogan & Co, Henrock and Aulis.

The events are hosted by head farmer John Rowlands and chef Liam Fitzpatrick, who will share information on sustainability practices and the cultivation of micro-herbs, vegetables, fruit and flowers. A typical multi-course menu includes braised lamb shoulder finished over coals; grilled baby turnips, little gem, fermented beans, kale and cabbage; salt-baked kohlrabi; fresh and pickled radishes; and flatbreads with herb butter.

A Tuesday tour and meal, including snacks and a choice of wines and soft drinks, costs £150 per person. Monday bookings include an overnight stay in Cartmel and a breakfast box, and are charged at £500 per couple sharing. There are only 13 dates available, with bookings open now at simonrogan.co.uk.
