Another family cooks in Padstow

A new family-run venue is opening in Padstow – but this time it is not from the Rick Stein clan of Seafood Restaurant fame, but from locally-born chef Thomas Hine, who launches his first cafe and restaurant today, PL28 Cafe.

PL28, on Broad Street, will operate as a daytime cafe serving breakfast and lunch before switching to a chef’s table supper club in the evening, with a menu that focuses on local produce – and it is very much a family affair, with cousin Will Derry on board as business partner and manager, and younger brother Fred as sous chef.

Thomas has worked under Michael Caines at Lympstone Manor in Devon, at Coast in Saundersfoot, Pembrokeshire and at Penmaenuchaf hotel in Snowdonia National PARK.

He says: “This is the perfect opportunity for me to show what I’ve learnt over the years, and to do it in my own kitchen in my hometown of Padstow is a privilege.”
