Vietnamese pioneer opens second branch

Veteran Vietnamese restaurant Sông Quê is to open its second branch early in the New Year, having taken over the Spitalfields premises occupied by Tom Brown’s Pearly Queen until it closed down in October.

An early stakeholder on the Kingsland Road ‘Pho Mile’ when it opened in 2002, Sông Quê has been a regular in the Harden’s guide ever since, winning solid ratings for its ‘very tasty, home-style cooking’.

The new branch will be known as Sông Quê Pho Cafe after the most famous dish on its menu, but is expected to serve all the favourite dishes from the mothership. Opening away from the Vietnamese enclave marks a move into more mainstream restaurant territory, on the edge of the City in Commercial Street.
