Three cheers for new pub in Chelsea

A venue billed as the first new pub on the King’s Road in Chelsea for 100 years and named after a famous British naval victory 220 years ago has opened this week.

The Trafalgar has taken over the ground floor and basement of a Grade II-listed Edwardian bank building, owned by the Cadogan Estate and designed by Sir Reginald Blomfield, who also built Chequers. Converted at a cost of £2.4 million, it incorporates a smart bar and dining room at street level with a basement for live entertainment and private parties.

The main upstairs space retains the original five-metre-high ceilings, large windows and ornate plasterwork, with the addition of a bar, intimate booths, oversized chandeliers, leather dining chairs and vintage artwork. Downstairs features a first-class sound system, an antique mirrored ceiling and a hidden bar, and will host live music, creative arts and cabaret events including Thursday stand-up shows from the Always Be Comedy outfit.

The Trafalgar is the tenth pub from the Three Cheers Pub Co, which also owns the Bedford in Balham and the Latchmere and the Bolingbroke in Clapham.

Three Cheers owner Tom Peake said: “We are delighted to be taking on this historic site and creating a wonderful new public house, a home from home for Chelsea locals and visitors alike. We are proud to be a part of this exciting development and look forward to bringing a real sense of community and connection to the area that only a proper British pub can.”
