The independent Japanese restaurant Robata, well known in London, is planning to launch a new venue in Birmingham city centre, Birmingham Live has reported.

Robata currently operates a site in Soho and has lodged new proposals to convert the former Chilango unit in Britain’s second city.

Robata, which means ‘fireside’, specialises in grilled charcoal cooking, and is based on an izakaya-style restaurant which in Japan centres on casual dining.

Robata’s head chef is Charles Lee, who has worked in numerous high level kitchens.
