A big tent for dishes from the Middle East and more

John Javier’s Middle Eastern-inspired restaurant The Tent (at the end of the universe) at members’ club 17 Little Portland Street in Fitzrovia will open to the public next Wednesday, 17th August.

Ex-Noma chef John Javier launched the restaurant in February, serving tabbouleh, humus and taramasalata to guests sitting on low stools under canvas-hung ceilings, accompanied by a high-end sound system.

He says: “At the start, we were really trying to be traditional with the cuisine. Now that we’re confident that we can do that, we’re moving to a newer, more exciting direction. We’re having a lot more fun with our offering … I’ll often season with shiro dashi or yuzu kosho and you won’t really notice it but it’s definitely hidden in there.

Among the non-Middle Eastern options appearing on the menu will be Iberico pork served as a schnitzel, dark red carabineiro prawns and beef from retired dairy cows.
