D&D London relaunched its Mayfair Italian Sartoria on 7 December following an extensive three-month refurb’. Even more interesting than the new look, though, is the new chef the group has attracted to head up the kitchen – Francesco Mazzei.
The Italian chef has moved from one impressive all-rounder to another, going from the City’s L’Anima to D&D’s smart offering in Savile Row. Sartoria continues to impress Harden’s reporters (one of the few D&D venues that does) with its “very enjoyable” cooking and impressive wine list. Both restaurants, of course, remain popular for expense-accounters and business meetings, so Mazzei should be right at home.
He joins as chef patron of Mayfair’s Sartoria. It is his first role since leaving L’Anima in March after seven years.
Sartoria’s refurbishment by David d’Almada sees the addition of a new bar (Libare Bar) and cicchetti counter, two private dining rooms as well as a wine cellar boasting 250 bins where head sommelier Michael Simms will host private wine tasting events. Mazzei has created an all-day dining menu including breakfast that will feature dishes from his native Calabria and other regions in Italy.
On the menu: Francesco’s Eggs Purgatorio (Baked eggs, spicy tomato & n’duja sauce with crostoni); Astice Sibaryta (Warm lobster salad “sybarita” style); Baccalá marinato alla liquirizia (home-cured baccalá marinated in liquorice); Spaghetti Carbonara with truffle and Nodino di Maiale (Pork Chop) with cocoa beans, chard and n’duja.
