Richard Allen departs Rockliffe Hall

Richard Allen has left his role as executive chef at Rockliffe Hall’s Orangery after five years in charge.

Allen, who produced “refined” and “flavoursome” dishes at the restaurant, said he is moving on to pursue other projects and has been replaced by chef Gary Duffy, who has been promoted to head chef having worked as Allen’s number two for the past ten years. Allen will continue to work with Duffy on a consultancy basis.

Duffy told The Caterer: “I’m absolutely thrilled to have been given this exciting opportunity and am inheriting an exceptional kitchen team. I look forward to working hard with everyone to keep the Orangery on the fine dining map.”

Simon Roberts, general manager at the 61-bedroom resort in Hurworth, County Durham, said: “I am delighted for Gary, who has worked so hard since joining us five years ago. There is no one who deserves this promotion more than him. Because he has worked with Richard so closely, for so long, the transition will be seamless and the food he and his team deliver in the Orangery will continue to be first class.

“We are sad to see Richard go but wish him the very best with the next stage in his fantastic career. He has produced so many outstanding menus and dishes in the Orangery and has been instrumental in Rockliffe Hall being awarded the coveted four AA rosettes.”
