Suave Italian in former Shipping Exchange

A smart and spacious all-day Italian restaurant called Campanelle – meaning ‘little bells’ – opened in the City this week, taking over the listed former London Shipping Exchange building in Billiter Street.

The restaurant has 180 covers over two storeys, with a dining room, wine room and 44-seat all-weather terrace on the ground floor. Upstairs is another 80-seat dining room with open kitchen, plus a 26-seat private dining room overlooking the terrace.

Campanelle is the fourth venue from restaurateur Ninai Zarach, following nearby Canto Corvino and Manicomio and Manicomio in Chelsea – described in the current Harden’s guide as “civilised Italians”.

She said: “We are delighted to be bringing the wonders of Italy to the heart of London. The area is vibrant and filled with such an incredible history, and we cannot wait to be part of its community and welcome our guests in. Italy has a charm and spirit to it which is unmatched, with such an abundance of beautiful produce and ingredients too, and we are looking forward to bringing these flavours to our guests, old and new.”

The menu offers a selection of antipasti, pasta and sharing dishes such as tiger prawn, scallop and squid spiedino and 45-day dry-aged beef ribeye with summer truffle.
