A pub with very little beer – but lots of wine on tap

A new ‘wine pub’ and restaurant with ten wines on tap (and just a couple of beers) opens in Spitalfields Market next week. Alfi’s ‘draught’ options range from an organic biodynamic Riesling and an orange wine to several fizzies including a pet nat.

The operation is being launched by Ben Hodges and Alex Lewis in a former branch of Leon next Friday, 1 December, with the restaurant following in early February.

Ben & Alex say, “We’re really enjoying turning the wine to beer tap ratio on its head by offering some really great wine in a more casual way. We’re really excited about bringing something different to Spitalfields – and London – somewhere that provides some top-quality wine and food while being a convivial place to meet and hang out.”

In addition to the wines on tap there will be 40 different bottles on offer, with a choice of bar snacks and small plates available from the outset. When it opens next year, the kitchen will be run by former Waterside Inn, Hind’s Head and Restaurant Story chef Lorenzo Brigandi, with a focus on food cooked over a lava stone robata grill.
