Gladwin Bros make their country debut close to home in West Sussex

The Gladwin brothers will next week open their first country pub, the Black Horse at Amberley in West Sussex, close to Nutbourne, the family estate and vineyard where they grew up.

Richard, Oliver and Gregory have launched five rustic-style farm-to-fork venues in London under their ‘Local and Wild’ brand, beginning in 2012 with the Shed in Notting Hill.

The Black Horse is their first foray outside London, and their first to include accommodation, with 11 guest rooms. The pub will source wines from Nutbourne and neighbouring producers such as Nyetimber, along with beers from the nearby Langham Brewery as well as Adnams.

Oliver and Richard said: “This is a very special moment for us. We have had a brilliant time with our restaurants and beloved pub in London, however this is truly home for us, we grew up in and around this pub, so when the opportunity came to take it over, it was an absolute no- brainer for us.

This building and this village means a lot to us, so we are determined to do it justice. We’re bringing home everything we’ve learnt over the twelve years of operating in London to roost in this pub – we truly cannot wait to open the doors.

Richard, as restaurateur, and Oliver, the executive chef, run the London operation, which also includes Rabbit and the Pig’s Ear pub in Chelsea, Sussex in Soho and The Black Lamb in Wimbledon. Gregory is the farmer of the trio, based at Nutbourne.
