Pump Shoreditch takes over abandoned garage

pumpWhen buildings fall derelict they are naturally reclaimed by their surroundings. Usually, this involves their being taken over by climbing plants and trees, but in Shoreditch you need to replace the creeping ivy with dude food pop-ups, and trees with organic farmers’ markets.

Witness, for example, the abandoned petrol station and former Co-op site on Shoreditch High Street. A food market has taken over the vacant lot – Pump Shoreditch – an array of street food stalls like Pulled Food, Hao Chili, Gourmet Griffin, Mama’s Jerk Station and Pomme A Terre.

Enjoy it while you still can – there’s a planning application in the works to demolish the garage and build a six storey development of office space, restaurants and cafés. Hopefully Pump Shoreditch will be allowed to stay on.
