£55 pp

Voted the best place in the capital to get a juicy slice of beef on the bone, according to our 2015 survey, The Rib Room is “a real treat in every respect”. This luxurious, well-spaced Belgravia dining room is firing on all cylinders after its revamp last year; as well as the top-quality roast beef and grills for which it’s long been famous, the “seasonal menus show true skill and inventiveness”.

£10 pp

“Steak and salad for a tenner – WOW!” Flat Iron’s trio of “simple”, “hipster” hang outs in Soho, Covent Garden and by Centrepoint “do what they do very well indeed”; “arrive early, but it’s always worth the wait”. Their Henrietta Street branch, which opened late last year, is the biggest of the three and features on-site butchery and a Yorkshire beer bar.

Anchor & HopeHave lunch at London’s best pub

Roast beef: £22.80

“London’s best gastropub” (for the 10th year running) – The Anchor & Hope is a “rammed” but “engaging” South Bank fixture, which is “still an exciting and exhilarating food experience” and “incorporates unusual ingredients (including game and offal) much superior to the norm”. “I just wish you could book” (though you can for Sunday lunch).

Slice: £4

Pizza: £20

Take him for London’s best pizza slice instead of opting for meat-heavy Sunday menus. Homeslice serves “awesome (and huge) pizzas” – with “obscure combinations that work” – like aubergine, cauliflower cheese, spinach & harissa; or Calabrian peppers, chervil and Lincolnshire poacher. You can’t book at the Covent Garden original, but there are a limited number of tables available for reservation at the “fun”, but “crammed” and “loud” pitstops in Fitzrovia and Shoreditch.

Whisky masterclass: £25 pp

This Father’s Day Mayfair’s “adventurous” nouvelle Indian, Benares, will partner with whisky connoisseurs, Chivas, for a special, one-off masterclass. Hosted in Benares’ sumptuous Berkeley private dining room, cocktails and canapés will be provided on arrival, before fathers are taught everything they need to know about the water of life. From how to expertly pair whisky with food, to when in the day it is best enjoyed, and the history behind the drink – with tastings along the way. Lunch will follow in Benares’ dining room and all fathers will also be given a Chivas Miniature on departure, to enjoy in the comfort of home.
