A new all-day bakery and restaurant pitched as an antidote to the austerity of recent years launches next week on the former site of Forza Win in Camberwell Church Street. Hello JoJo takes its name from Jo (JoJo) Lavender, co-founder with Rob Newlan.
They say: “Hello JoJo is a true celebration of the very special place that we call home. Our ambition is to create a space that encapsulates the spirit of our neighbourhood and to be a place where everyone feels welcome.
“The priority is for guests to leave feeling nourished by great flavours, enjoy the good vibes and a warm reception, and always to leave with the glow of a good time.“
Rob adds: “After years of austerity and mean-spirited times, we fundamentally believe that using great ingredients and abundant generosity can bring flavour, colour and hope back into our neighbourhood.”
The pair have lined up a strong team to make it happen: head chef Will Faris has worked at The Dairy, The Ritz and Naughty Piglets, head baker Jo Garner at Mountain, Toad and e5 Bakehouse, and general manager Abie Lamin at the Berber & Q group.
JoJo has developed a range of cocktails and non-alcoholic drinks including a fennel brine martini, to be served alongside a list of old-world low-intervention wine that changes to reflect the seasonal food menu. There will also be tap on wine from Uncharted Wines, beer on tap from Camberwell brewery Orbit and non-alcoholic alternatives from Nirvana Brewery.
