A vibey Japanese restaurant called Mitsu opens in Shoreditch this week, in the cavernous space formerly occupied by a branch of Nobu.
Billed as ‘a new Japanese izakaya shaped by the energy of Tokyo nights and East London’s rhythm’, Mitsu serves a menu of classic Japanese dishes such as nigiri, sashimi and tempura, plus porterhouse steaks and Brixham turbot cooked on a robata grill.
More unusual dishes include what is claimed to be London’s first ‘unadon’, grilled eel (unagi) in a rich sauce served over rice, and a matcha tiramisu served tableside with portions scooped from an enormous dish. Set menus are priced at £85 and £105.
The 240-capacity restaurant sits inside what was the Nobu boutique hotel, which opened in 2017 and was taken over as the London branch of Aethos hotels last year. Aethos was founded in Italy in 2018.
