The Laundry to launch new canteen

The ultimate hipster hang-out, The Laundry in London Fields, is to open a canteen-style restaurant and bar in May. Just in case you needed this project’s cool credentials… the building is co-owned by Radiohead’s Ed O’Brien, it’s been styled as a ‘cultural hub’ and, well, it’s in Hackney.

The 100-cover restaurant will open early next month as part of a complex which comprises numerous music and art workspaces and a basement events space that holds 700 people. Produce from an allotment located in the building’s communal roof garden will be served in the restaurant.

Set on the site of a former commercial laundry in Warburton Road, the project aims to promote art, music, drama, fashion and photography through exhibitions and performances. That, and presumably to make a bit of money in the process. Eight new build rooftop apartments are also included in the plans.
