Chef Tom Oldroyd (former chef director of Polpo group) steps out from Russell Norman’s shadow and strikes out on his own with his first solo venture in Islington. Oldroyd has just opened on Upper Street.
The 40-cover neighbourhood restaurant is split across two floors, with a no reservations café feel downstairs and bistro-style dining upstairs, which will (flying in the face of modern restaurant convention) take bookings. The menu focuses on small plates using locally-sourced, seasonal British produce and no doubt draws on Tom’s five year’s experience at Polpo.
On the menu: Confit mustard duck wings; pea & pork jowl croquettes, with summer truffle mayo and ‘Cornish chorizo, prawn & broad bean paella, with cockles & aioli’. Oldroyd will also serve a selection of sandwiches, weekend brunch items and cold pressed juices.
