St John and the London Food Link launch mentoring programme for young chefs and restaurants

St John staff are to offer their wisdom to socially minded restaurants in London as part of a new support initiative.

Chefs and front of house crew at Fergus Henderson’s restaurant will take part in the St John Pass It On scheme, which will run in conjunction with sustainability food and farming group London Food Link (LFL).

The team will offer advice and mentoring to those running charitable, community restaurants, food enterprises and hospitality businesses.

The idea was announced in LFL’s publication The Jellied Eel. St John’s Trevor Gulliver said: “We know that we have a responsibility for much in the wider world, but also wanted to do something local, something that our folk could become engaged with directly and see the benefit of too.”

LFL co-ordinator Chris Young added: “Since 2002 we’ve worked to connect, support and celebrate people who grow, make, cook, sell, save, forage and teach good food in the capital.

“The St John team have so much experience, knowledge and skill between them, and it’s really exciting to be able to help them pass it on.”

Business owners are invited to apply on LFL’s website if they “run an independent eatery/foodservice business in London and need help with any aspect of the business”.
