Chef Conor Gadd, co-owner of Italian neighbourhood trattoria Trullo in Islington, has opened his first solo venture, taking over the venue previously occupied by Petersham Nurseries in Covent Garden’s Floral Court.
Burro (meaning ‘butter’) is billed as a “part Irish country house kitchen, part Italian fifties bistro“, serving “warm, evocative and creative food” that expresses the values of Conor’s native Ireland and his culinary inspiration.
The produce-led menu changes twice daily and features hand-rolled pasta (most choices under the £20 mark) along with larger dishes, including veal and lemon sole cooked in butter. Potatoes also come in garlic butter, while the tiramisu dessert comes in the form of a doughnut, for a refreshing change.
The heavyweight Italian wine list includes both mainstream classics and contemporary natural wines, and is backed up by a wide-ranging Champagne selection.
The site is known as a particularly beautiful location for a restaurant, with an attractive outdoor terrace. Burro opens formally next week, with 50% off at a soft opening this weekend.
