The Salutation, made famous on Channel 4’s Gogglebox, has closed

The Salutation, hotel and restaurant made famous by former Gogglebox stars “Steph and Dom”, has closed.

The 17 bedroom hotel, in Sandwich, Kent, went into insolvency in January and has now entered into Creditors’ Voluntary Liquidation, with bookings now not being met.

The business was being run by John Fothergill, who had a five-year lease with owners Steph and Dom Parker, who appeared for many years on the popular Channel 4 show.

Soon after acquisition, Fothergill embarked on a refurbishment project, adding new dining areas, as well as space for afternoon tea. The kitchen was also relocated.

Chef Shane Hughes also relaunched the restaurant, as well as a tasting room, parlour, and drawing room bar. Hughes’ food was rated well, service, however, was not.

Mr Parker told KentOnline said: “We are sorry to confirm that The Salutation Hotel Ltd, which has been managing The Salutation has indeed become insolvent.

“We are in discussions with other interested parties and we aim to have the hotel back up and running very soon, under new management.

“Our thoughts are with the staff who have been affected by this.”
