Birmingham-Sicilian chef Angelina Adamo launches her first bricks-and-mortar restaurant tomorrow (Saturday 7 February) – Vieni, in the new Goodsyard development in the city’s Jewellery Quarter.
A graduate of University College Birmingham, Angelina trained at Simpson’s in Edgbaston and runs her own private dining company, Tutto Apposto, which also operates the Circle Lounge in the Birmingham Hippodrome. Vieni is inspired by her family’s background in Agrigento on Sicily’s south coast, with dishes including her father Giovanni’s tiramisu soaked in Marsala.
Angelina says: “Vieni allows me to bring my Nonna’s cooking into a restaurant setting for the first time, and seeing that vision realised in my first permanent space is incredibly special. I can’t wait to showcase that Sicilian food isn’t just pizza and pasta, it’s so much more!
“When I first viewed the site, sunlight flooded the space and I just knew. My very first thought was how perfectly a disco ball would catch the light!”
Vieni – meaning “come in” – is a female-run operation, with restaurant manager Charlotte Carter heavily involved in the planning from the earliest stages.
She says: “We’ve been sketching ideas on napkins from the very beginning – menus, colours, the kind of team and atmosphere we wanted to create. Vieni is about warmth, generosity and making people feel instantly at home. We’re so proud to be the flagship hospitality opening in The Goodsyard, it’s so exciting to finally open the doors.”
