Brighton’s Black Rock restaurant group has this week opened its first pub – the Crazy Goose, on the original site of the Coal Shed in Boyce’s Street, one block back from the seafront in the town centre.
The pub features a bar on the ground floor and a first-floor dining room called The Blue Room, with a menu of what is billed as classic British and European comfort food ‘elevated with seasonal creativity’.
The original Coal Shed moved into larger premises last year; there is also has a branch in London, near Tower Bridge on the south bank of the Thames. Black Rock’s other Brighton venues are the Salt Room, Burnt Orange and Tutto.
The ‘Crazy Goose’ references a family nickname for founder Raz Helalat’s father-in-law, Don Camilleri, who was instrumental in the launch of the Coal Shed in its early days.
Raz said ahead of the new opening: “I have always loved the buzz and warmth of a neighbourhood pub and our original Coal Shed site felt like the right place to bring this to life.
“We’re working closely with local breweries alongside larger much-loved drinks suppliers. As always, we’re labouring over both the food and drinks menus to bring our guests well-rounded, yet carefully curated, menus people will love.”
