Scottish-Italian chef Nico Simeone has relaunched one of his Six by Nico venues in Manchester as Lennox, which he describes as his “most personal restaurant project to date“.
The prolific Glasgow-based chef/restaurateur has established himself on the national stage with 15 Six by Nico restaurants opening in the past decade, offering ‘affordable fine dining’ in the form of six-course set meals to themes which change every six weeks.
The new Manchester venture, in Spring Gardens, is very different. Said to be inspired by New York, it has a dark, vibey interior and features a chef’s table and an open kitchen featuring a Japanese-style barbecue.
Described as “stripped back, instinctive and deeply personal“, the restaurant represents a “deliberate shift away from format and structure, towards the raw, unfiltered energy of the kitchen“. Nico says the menu is based around indulgent food, offering “dishes and flavours that people recognise, but elevating them using good skill and technique.”
Guests can choose between small plates, including a dish of boneless chicken wings and parmesan gnocchi which Nico made at his first restaurant, and larger sharing dishes featuring cuts of dry-aged meat.
So far at least, there are no plans to multiply Lennox, which has been presented as a one-off. Fans of Six by Nico can still find a branch in Manchester City centre, in John Dalton Street.
