Burgers, Etc Restaurants in Ashtead
1. MEATliquor
Burgers, etc restaurant in Croydon
99 George St - CR0
“When you want a hipster burger dripping in your beard, this place delivers!” – Scott Collins’s “buzzy, vibey” joints are notorious for their “really good dirty burgers” with memorable names (the ‘Dead Hippie’ and its veggie cousin the ‘Tempeh Tantrum’), plus “excellent buffalo wings with blue-cheese sauce”. In early 2025 he opened spinoff venture BLOODsports in a Covent Garden basement (see also), showing live sports and horror films on large-screen TVs.
2. Street Burger
Burgers, etc restaurant in Woking
57 Commercial Way - GU21
Gordon Ramsay’s four-year-old fast-food chain – one of several diffusion brands from the TV chef – has half a dozen sites across the capital. Views on it have always been somewhat mixed and became even more polarised this year: between those who consider it “a great new discovery” and those who feel it’s “disappointing for an upmarket burger”.
3. MEATliquor
Burgers, etc restaurant in Wandsworth
74 Northcote Road - SW11
“When you want a hipster burger dripping in your beard, this place delivers!” – Scott Collins’s “buzzy, vibey” joints are notorious for their “really good dirty burgers” with memorable names (the ‘Dead Hippie’ and its veggie cousin the ‘Tempeh Tantrum’), plus “excellent buffalo wings with blue-cheese sauce”. In early 2025 he opened spinoff venture BLOODsports in a Covent Garden basement (see also), showing live sports and horror films on large-screen TVs.
4. Black Dog Beer House
British, Modern restaurant in Brentford
17 Albany Road - TW8
This “admirably restored Edwardian local” in Brentford was “pimped up a few years ago”, and while it “still feels like a proper pub… the focus on food is far greater”. There’s a “wide range of craft ales”, “a roaring fire in winter”, and an “interesting”, diverse menu also incorporating staples such as “very good burgers”. Top Menu Tip – “they also have a range of posh fish in tins which come with toasted sourdough: a nice thing in summer with a drink in the pleasant garden”.
5. Black Bear Burger
Burgers, etc restaurant in Brixton
11-13 Market Row - SW9
“Best burger for me”, declare fans of this independent group that started out 10 years ago with a stall on Broadway Market and a focus on grass-fed, dry-aged British beef – and the judges at the 2025 National Burger Awards share the view, crowning Black Bear’s Miso Bacon Burger as ‘Burger of the Year’. “Their seeded buns and wings are pretty good too”. The name refers to founders Stu & Liz Down’s working holidays in the Canadian Rockies. In April 2025, they opened their largest outlet yet, with 100 covers, at Westfield White City.
6. Big Easy
American restaurant in Chelsea
332-334 King’s Road - SW3
These “huge American-style diners” win solid ratings for their rock’n’roll (and blues and country) delivery of a “meat-heavy menu”, washed down by bucket-loads of ice-cold beers or two-pint jugs of ‘slushy’ cocktails, designed for raucous partying. The “great-value surf ’n’ turf” and lunch deals go down well, too. The original Chelsea venue opened 35 years ago, and has been joined more recently by spinoffs in Covent Garden, Canary Wharf and Westfield Stratford.
7. The Dartmouth Arms (inc Meat Liquor)
Burgers, etc restaurant in Forest Hill
7 Dartmouth Rd - SE23
“When you want a hipster burger dripping in your beard, this place delivers!” – Scott Collins’s “buzzy, vibey” joints are notorious for their “really good dirty burgers” with memorable names (the ‘Dead Hippie’ and its veggie cousin the ‘Tempeh Tantrum’), plus “excellent buffalo wings with blue-cheese sauce”. In early 2025 he opened spinoff venture BLOODsports in a Covent Garden basement (see also), showing live sports and horror films on large-screen TVs.
8. The Admiral Codrington
International restaurant in Chelsea
17 Mossop St - SW3
In the traditional heart of posh Chelsea, this Sloaney backstreet boozer is nowadays part of Butcombe Inns, whose four siblings in the capital likewise occupy nice properties in expensive postcodes. With its small garden and cute dining room with retractable roof, it wins solid ratings but nothing like the attention it once enjoyed, and is primarily recommendable as a relatively affordable fallback in this pricey bit of town.
9. Bleecker Burger
Burgers, etc restaurant in Hammersmith and Fulham
The Balcony, Westfield White City - W12
“Just simple and exceptional!” – Zan Kaufman’s fast-expanding chain still remains widely hailed for offering “the best burger in London”: a winning formula that’s bringing an eighth site in Soho in 2025 alongside recent additions in Seven Dials, London Bridge and – the biggest one yet (28 covers) – on Baker Street. All of the many reports we receive acclaim its “amazing burgers and amazing fries”. One caveat – “expect delays if you want to eat in the evening at the Bloomberg building outlet as they can be too busy fulfilling the constant Deliveroo orders for the starving investment bankers who are all still working until midnight!”
10. MEATliquor ED
Burgers, etc restaurant in East Dulwich
37 Lordship Lane - SE22
“When you want a hipster burger dripping in your beard, this place delivers!” – Scott Collins’s “buzzy, vibey” joints are notorious for their “really good dirty burgers” with memorable names (the ‘Dead Hippie’ and its veggie cousin the ‘Tempeh Tantrum’), plus “excellent buffalo wings with blue-cheese sauce”. In early 2025 he opened spinoff venture BLOODsports in a Covent Garden basement (see also), showing live sports and horror films on large-screen TVs.
11. Bleecker Burger
Burgers, etc restaurant in Belgravia
205 Victoria St - SW1E
“Just simple and exceptional!” – Zan Kaufman’s fast-expanding chain still remains widely hailed for offering “the best burger in London”: a winning formula that’s bringing an eighth site in Soho in 2025 alongside recent additions in Seven Dials, London Bridge and – the biggest one yet (28 covers) – on Baker Street. One caveat – “expect delays if you want to eat in the evening at the Bloomberg building outlet as they can be too busy fulfilling the constant Deliveroo orders for the starving investment bankers who are all still working until midnight!”
12. Burger & Lobster, Harvey Nichols
Burgers, etc restaurant in Knightsbridge
109-125 Knightsbridge - SW1
Founded in 2011 by four friends, this interesting concept hit ten sites in London in April 2025 with its debut in Kensington (replacing Street Burger on the high street) and also has a Brighton outpost as well as a handful of footholds in the Middle East and Asia. Fans are still in the majority and say its posh comfort food (the clue is in the name) is “a surprisingly good offering”. But while there are few harsh criticisms, its ratings have over the years slipped to a level that’s only “OK”.
13. Nusr-Et Steakhouse
Steaks & grills restaurant in Knightsbridge
101 Knightsbridge - SW1X
“Over-priced theatre” sums up the dire feedback this year on the Knightsbridge outlet from Nusret Gökçe, aka Salt Bae (motto ‘No Salt No Life’) – one of the Turkish-Kurdish butcher-turned-showman’s 30 operations on three continents – where you can blow £680 on a giant striploin of wagyu or £630 on a giant tomahawk steak, despite the fact that “much better steaks are available in restaurants across London”. (A 24-carat gold-coated pistachio baklava is a comparative snip at £50.) Some people, it seems, are paying these prices: in 2024, a sharp fall in annual turnover was reported… but that still left it with profits of £1.7 million before tax! Top Tip – if you must go, then you can halve the price shown by sticking to a burger (about £50).
14. MEATliquor
Burgers, etc restaurant in Bayswater
17 Queensway - W2
“When you want a hipster burger dripping in your beard, this place delivers!” – Scott Collins’s “buzzy, vibey” joints are notorious for their “really good dirty burgers” with memorable names (the ‘Dead Hippie’ and its veggie cousin the ‘Tempeh Tantrum’), plus “excellent buffalo wings with blue-cheese sauce”. In early 2025 he opened spinoff venture BLOODsports in a Covent Garden basement (see also), showing live sports and horror films on large-screen TVs.
15. The Waterman’s Arms
British, Modern restaurant in Barnes
375 Lonsdale Road - SW13
“Very high-end food for a pub” in a special setting – an upstairs dining room with a balcony overlooking the Thames – has made this handsome year-old tavern a “great addition to Barnes”. “The score would be higher but the grub does not always hit the highs”. Founder Joe Grossman is a local boy who owns burger chain Patty & Bun: this is his passion project. Top Menu Tip – “have all the starters and share the lamb shoulder”.
16. Patty and Bun
Burgers, etc restaurant in Wandsworth
12 Northcote Road - SW11
“Messy, filling and tasty” – this 14-year-old indie outfit is “one of the best burger groups in London”, with seven outlets in the capital and one in Brighton. It was acquired last year by a new company, headed by original founder Joe Grossman. Top Menu Tip – “the Ari Gold cheeseburger is best”.
17. Street Burger
Burgers, etc restaurant in Kensington and Chelsea
222 Kensington High Street - W8
Gordon Ramsay’s four-year-old fast-food chain – one of several diffusion brands from the TV chef – has half a dozen sites across the capital. Views on it have always been somewhat mixed and became even more polarised this year: between those who consider it “a great new discovery” and those who feel it’s “disappointing for an upmarket burger”.
18. Black Bear Burger
Burgers, etc restaurant in Hammersmith and Fulham
1026 Ariel Way - W12
“Best burger for me”, declare fans of this independent group that started out 10 years ago with a stall on Broadway Market and a focus on grass-fed, dry-aged British beef – and the judges at the 2025 National Burger Awards share the view, crowning Black Bear’s Miso Bacon Burger as ‘Burger of the Year’. “Their seeded buns and wings are pretty good too”. The name refers to founders Stu & Liz Down’s working holidays in the Canadian Rockies. In April 2025, they opened their largest outlet yet, with 100 covers, at Westfield White City.
19. Dirty Burger
Burgers, etc restaurant in Vauxhall
Arch 54, 6 South Lambeth Road - SW8
2022 Review: This once-thriving burger brand from Nick Jones’s Soho House group has been reduced to a single branch, under the arches in Vauxhall, and a supporting role at stablemate Chicken Shop in St John’s Wood. Fans reckon it’s “good for when you’re in a hurry” – perhaps they should hurry, while it’s still there.
20. The Grill on Fifth
Steaks & grills restaurant in Kensington and Chelsea
87 Brompton Road - SW1X
Open from the start of January 2025 at Harrods, this grill serving a variety of steaks and simple grills (salmon fillet, sizzling prawns, crispy chicken cutlet) has taken over the large and striking split-level, fifth-floor premises previously occupied by the short-lived Studio Frantzen (RIP). The upstairs rooftop bar and heated terrace are a gem of the locale, but with a smashburger (without fries) costing £34, it’s priced for visiting international types rather than local yocals.
