All-day North European dining in Fitzrovia

A new boutique hotel called the Newman with an all-day brasserie serving North European-inspired comfort food opens on Sunday 1 February, just north of Oxford Street in Fitzrovia.

Angelica has its own bar and a terrace for outdoor eating in warmer weather, with the added attraction of a sandwich trolley at lunchtime. The kitchen is heading by Australian executive chef Christian Turner, who spent over a decade with Corbin & King, where he was head chef at The Delaunay; he also launched the new Manzi’s in Soho.

Angelica’s menu features dishes such as house-smoked gravadlax with fresh pickled cucumber and mustard sauce; halibut with hasselback potatoes, crispy kale and grain mustard sauce; and lemon and blueberry custard tart. Breakfast, served from 7am, offers ricotta hotcakes with caramelised apples and honeycomb butter, while Sunday lunch has a more British accent, with a focus on roast sirloin of beef with roast potatoes, cauliflower cheese, Yorkshire pudding and house gravy.

There is also an Art Deco-inspired basement bar called Gambit, serving cocktails and craft beer with plenty of ‘low and no’ choices, alongside small plates, plus entertainment in the form of in-house DJs and regular chess nights.

The Newman marks the debut of a new privately owned hospitality outfit, Kinsfolk & Co, which aims to open five venues in key cities in the next few years. It is led by Paul Brackley, previously MD of Mayfair’s Beaumont Hotel and general manager of the Shangri-La at the Shard.
