Bodeans closes: is this the end?

Barbecue chain Bodeans has closed its three remaining branches in Soho, Camden Town and Tower Hill, which may signify the end of the brand after 24 years.

A message on its website reads: “We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and would like to thank you for your continued support and loyalty. We appreciate your understanding during this time and hope to welcome you again in the future.

Bodeans was founded by Canadian restaurateur Andre Blais is 2002 with a focus on Kansas City-style smokehouse cooking, and grew at its height to seven outlets. Last year it hired Richard Turner – Meatopia founder and consultant to Hawksmoor, Blacklock and Pitt Cue – help turn around its sagging fortunes.

Its apparent demise comes at a time when standalone barbecue ventures seem to be thriving, with new openings this summer including Hon’s BBQ in Hackney Wick, Cue Point in Notting Hill and Ember at The Chandlers in the Cotswolds.
