Italian Restaurants in Merseyside
1. Lino’s Italian restaurant in Hoylake 122 Market Street - CH47
“Always reliable and enjoyable”, this veteran family-run Italian (est. 1983) has recently passed to the next generation, with Enrico Galantini taking over the reins from his parents, Lino & Barbara. It has always “deserved its mention” but such feedback as we have on the generational shift says the cooking has “improved considerably”.
2. San Carlo Italian restaurant in Liverpool 41 Castle St - L2
A “really vibrant and buzzing” venture – this branch of Carlo Distefano’s stylish Italian group has a business-district location well-suited to entertaining. But it also makes an “ideal spot for a relaxed meal out”: “Saturday night and the place is full of life, music, and all types of people – just lovely”.
3. The Italian Club Fish Italian restaurant in Liverpool 128 Bold St - L1
“Seafood heaven!” – part of an Italian-Scottish family-run group, this “casual” venue “changes from café at lunchtime to packed restaurant at night time” – when “it’s worth the crush for the brilliant fish and shellfish”. Top Tip: “go early evening for oysters and prosecco”.
4. Salt House Bacaro Italian restaurant in Liverpool 47 Castle St - L2
“Italian small plates (this time)” “from the Salt House tapas stable” – win solid ratings for this “friendly, buzzy restaurant” from the Red & Blue team. It’s “great for a larger party”, with “seats at the bar good for dates”; “it’s crowded so you do get to hear your neighbours’ conversations – although in Liverpool that can be theatre”.
5. Da Piero Italian restaurant in Irby 5-7 Mill Hill Rd - CH61
2018 Review: Dawn & Piero Di Bella’s “intimate” (though slightly extended these days) venture has built up quite a name on the Wirral. One or two reporters feel it’s a little “overrated” but mostly there’s praise for its “authentic” and “interesting” Italian/Sicilian food.
7. Buyers Club Italian restaurant in Liverpool 24 Hardman St - L1
2018 Review: Tucked down a narrow city-centre driveway, this hip, exposed-brick two-year-old bar, kitchen and music venue was launched by the team behind local foodie icon Bold Street Coffee in 2015; “the bar does excellently cooked and imaginative small plates”, and while “the restaurant isn’t open all the time, they also serve excellent food”.
